Social Work Programs

A Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work is the highest level of academic attainment in the field of Social Work, a discipline that focuses on social welfare issues, theories and practices with the aim of improving the quality of life through social policy, administration, institutional and community development.

A graduate program in Social Work will include subjects related to economics, education, medicine, politics, psychology and sociology. A PhD program in Social Work has a heavy emphasis on research and policy analysis, requiring a student to be well versed in qualitative and quantitative research methods in order to carry out independent researches during the course of the program.

Entry level into a PhD program is strict; candidates are expected to have acquired a Masters Degree in Social Work or related fields and have related work experiences. A typical duration of a PhD program in Social Work is two to four years but certain research-oriented programs can stretch to eight years. The duration also depends on whether it is a full-time or part-time study.
